When logging on for the first time with a temporary password, or having had a password reset, the Password Change screen is presented and a new password must be typed and confirmed. Only 15 characters will be accepted and typing more than 15 will mean subsequent characters are ignored without any warning. Also, Beacon will ignore invalid characters while flashing up a message Invalid character suppressed.
Using a password of more than 15 characters to login will fail even though the change was apparently accepted.
If the Invalid character suppressed message isn't spotted then the password won't work because it will contain character(s) that were ignored. The character & commonly causes this problem because the temporary password can include it even though it is unacceptable to use the Password Change screen. For example, a password typed as "Jack&Jill99" will actually be set to "JackJill99".
Finally, when resetting a password the message displaying the password includes a comma at the end, as in this screenshot. The comma is not part of the password.
The easiest way to use this password is to select it, copy it (Ctrl-C in Windows), and paste it (Ctrl-V) into the password box.
When resetting your password you will also be asked to enter a personal question and answer. You may answer the default question or you may replace this with something else. Make sure that the Answer is something that you will remember (including the format) but which is unlikely to be known to anyone else.
